Day 121 of 160

Day 121: Pension by E-Wallet

At a senior citizens' center in Pasig, Lorna (B), a city social welfare officer, brings news about the monthly pension to Lola Dorotea (A), Mang Domeng (D) and the other seniors, with Tina (C), the center's coordinator, at her side.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Lorna, what's the news? I hope we won't be lining up in the heat like before.

  2. B

Starting next month, your pension will be sent to you by e-wallet.

  3. C

What that means is, the money goes straight into your phone, so no more lining up.

  4. D

In my phone? I drove a jeepney for forty years, and the only money I trust is the money in my hand.

  5. A

There you go, Domeng, no more line. And you're the one who always complains on payout day.

  6. D

Says you, your sewing machine still runs on a treadle. What chance do you have with a cellphone?

  7. C

There'll be free training. Do any of you already use GCash?

  8. A

My machine runs on a treadle, but my sewing customers have been paying me by GCash for three years. Sit down here, I'll teach you.
