Day 120: The Stove Left On
On a street in Project 4, Quezon City, Gary (A), the barangay councilor for senior citizens, talks with Mitch (B), a young resident, about the elderly man who lives alone next door to her.
How to study this lesson 3 steps
- Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
- Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
- Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.
Dialogue
Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

Mitch, I hear there's something you wanted to tell me about Mang Lucio?
-
B
Opo.
Yes. Twice now he's left the stove on, and I'm the one who smelled the smoke.

Ever since Aling Nena passed away, he's been all alone in that house.

B
He's getting on in years, and he's become a bit forgetful. I just don't want him to be embarrassed.

A
Edgar, his son in Canada, needs to know. But how do we tell him?
-
B
I hope we don't say "he can't manage anymore." It would hurt him if he found out.
-
A
Sabihin nating "medyo nakakalimot na," hindi "ulyanin." Mas magaan pakinggan.
Let's say "a bit forgetful," not "senile." It's gentler to hear.

B
And I'll visit every day. I'll ask him to teach me his adobo, so I'm there whenever he cooks.

Brilliant, he gets to be a teacher instead of a patient. I'll message Edgar tonight.
