Day 119 of 160

Day 119: The Angry Caller Role-Play

At a call center in Eastwood, Quezon City, team leader Gilda (A) is interviewing Aaron (B) for a post on a government hotline, and the last test is a role-play with an angry caller.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Let's begin: I'm the angry caller, you're the agent.

  2. B

Good afternoon. Thank you for calling the hotline; how may I help you?

  3. A

I've been waiting two years for my national ID, and this is my fourth call!

  4. B

We apologize for the inconvenience. May I have your transaction number?

  5. A

"We apologize" again? That's what the three before you said too!

  6. B

Ma'am, I get it, that's really frustrating. I won't hang up on you until we've sorted this out together.

  7. A

Wow, I actually calmed down. Let me step out of the role-play: where did you learn that?

  8. B

Sa nanay ko po, Ma'am. Dalawampung taon po siyang barangay secretary, at araw-araw may sumisigaw sa kaniya.

From my mom, Ma'am. She was a barangay secretary for twenty years, and someone yelled at her every day.

  9. A

Pakisabi sa nanay mo, salamat. Sa Lunes, magsisimula ka na.

Tell your mom thank you. You start on Monday.
