Day 133 of 160

Day 133: Going Live With Tito Jess

In the garage that serves as her studio in Marikina, Daisy (B), a young online plant seller, gets some coaching from her uncle Jess (A), a former radio announcer, before she goes live.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Before you go live, listen to how a real broadcaster greets an audience.

  2. B

Let's make it quick, Tito. The live starts at eight, and lots of people are already waiting.

  3. A

Like this: "Good evening to our beloved customers; we welcome you most warmly."

  4. B

Tito, by the end of that, they've scrolled away! In the first five seconds, there has to be a sale.

  5. A

That's why your customers are all students. The plantitas with money want to be treated with respect.

  6. B

Let's try it in the family's private group. You do the opening, I'll do the selling.

  7. A

Nakita mo?

See that? Your titas stopped scrolling the moment they heard my voice.

  8. B

Yes, but they only typed "mine" once I started selling. You're only half right.

  9. A

So we're partners now. My talent fee is a pot of your priciest anthurium.
