Day 135: Abuloy From an Old Rival
Going door to door in their subdivision in Bacoor, Cavite, Brielle (A), the young treasurer of the homeowners' association, is collecting abuloy for the family of a neighbor who has just passed away, and reaches the house of Eric (B), who feuded with the man for years over a parking space.
How to study this lesson 3 steps
- Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
- Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
- Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.
Dialogue
Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

Magandang hapon po, Kuya Eric. Pasensiya na po sa abala.
Good afternoon, Kuya Eric. Sorry to bother you.

O, Brielle.
Oh, Brielle. If this is about dues, I'm paid up through December.

A
It's not that. We're collecting donations for the family of our late neighbor, Mang Nardo.
-
B
Nardo? I saw him watering his plants just yesterday.
-
A
He passed away early this morning. I know the two of you had your differences, so there's no pressure at all.
-
B
Over the parking? Ten years we squabbled over one parking space.
-
A
Yes, that's why I hesitated to knock. Any amount is fine, or even just a signature on the card.
-
B
Here's five thousand, and give the family the key to my garage. The people coming to the wake can park there.

A
I'll put it on the list: "Eric, five thousand and one garage."
