Day 143 of 160

Day 143: Not Menopause After All

At a clinic in Alabang, Dr. Bless (A), a young obstetrician-gynecologist, goes over the test results of Irene (B), a forty-two-year-old patient who came in sure that her symptoms were early menopause.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Ma'am Irene, before I explain the results, when was your last period?

  2. B

About two months ago, Doc. My mother went through menopause early too, so I was expecting this.

  3. A

I understand. But menopause isn't what we found in the tests.

  4. B

May masama ba, Doc?

Is it something bad, Doc? Don't beat around the bush; I'm not afraid of bad news.

  5. A

Wala pong masama. Nagdadalang-tao po kayo, mga walong linggo na.

Nothing's wrong. You're expecting, about eight weeks along.

  6. B

Pregnant? But my youngest is fifteen, Doc!

  7. A

Since you're a little older, we'll keep a closer eye on you, especially your blood pressure and blood sugar.

  8. B

How am I going to tell Arnold? He's the one who said it was just menopause.

  9. A

Bring him with you next time. I'll show him the heartbeat on the ultrasound; that's hard to argue with.
