Day 150 of 160

Day 150: The Gaming Sponsor's Contract

At the dining table in Novaliches, Bryce (A), a teenager with a growing gaming channel, begs his grandmother Lola Tinay (B), his guardian while his parents work abroad, to sign a brand's sponsorship contract, and his cousin Mariz (C), a law student, reads it first.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Lola, please sign it! They'll pay me twenty thousand a month.

  2. B

I don't sign contracts I don't understand, apo. Mariz, read it first, will you?

  3. C

Bryce, nabasa mo ba 'tong clause seven?

Bryce, did you read clause seven?

  4. A

Hindi na. Ang haba kasi, at puro English.

Didn't bother. It's so long, and it's all in English.

  5. C

Sa madaling salita, dalawampung oras kang kailangang mag-stream linggo-linggo, kahit may pasok, at may multa kapag kulang.

In short, you have to stream twenty hours every week, even on school days, and there's a fine if you fall short.

  6. B

Dalawampung oras? E kailan ka mag-aaral, sa panaginip?

Twenty hours? Then when will you study, in your dreams?

  7. A

I can do it, La. Just three hours a night, then longer on weekends.

  8. C

La, we can have that clause taken out before you sign. That's normal in a negotiation.

  9. B

Give me the pen. A cross here, my initials in the margin; once they agree, then I'll sign at the bottom.
