Day 19 of 160

Day 19: Cutting the Spaghetti Wires

At the barangay hall in Mandaluyong, Maureen (A), a young freelance editor who works from home, asks Ferdie (B), a barangay councilor, about tomorrow's clean-up of the tangled cables hanging from the street's poles.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Kagawad, is it true they're cutting all the cables on our street tomorrow?

  2. B

Under the ordinance, all sagging cables shall be cut; however, those bearing a company tag shall not be touched.

  3. A

A tag? How would I know if mine has one?

  4. B

A small plastic tag attached to the cable, with the provider's name on it.

  5. A

I didn't see anything like that, and my work depends on that line.

  6. B

Call your provider right away so they can tag it before eight.

  7. A

I'm calling now. I just hope their hotline picks up tonight.
