Day 25 of 160

Day 25: Who Owns the Food Cart?

At a hearing of the barangay's Lupong Tagapamayapa in Sampaloc, Manila, Nico (A) asks Alice (B), who chairs the mediation panel, to settle who keeps the shawarma cart and its name now that he and his friend Cholo (C) are splitting up.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Ma'am Alice, I'm the one who bought the cart, so the name is mine too.

  2. B

Isa-isa lang, Nico. Cholo, ano ang panig mo?

One at a time, Nico. Cholo, what's your side?

  3. C

Isn't my sauce the reason people line up, Nico?

  4. A

Wala kang inambag kahit piso.

And wasn't I the one who put up the money? You didn't chip in a single peso.

  5. B

Tama na ang tanungan. Isinulat ba ninyo ang usapan ninyo noong nagsimula kayo?

Enough with the questions. Did you put your agreement in writing when you started out?

  6. C

Not on paper, Ma'am, but it's in our group chat, every word of it.

  7. A

Wait, is that the chat where I told you the name was yours as long as I got the cart?
