Day 40: Two Scripts for One Program
In the faculty room of a public high school in San Pablo, Laguna, Fe (A) and Hilda (B), teachers who will host the city's Foundation Day program, rehearse their script with Justine (C), a new teacher who will co-host, and Dennis (D), the city's events coordinator.
How to study this lesson 3 steps
- Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
- Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
- Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.
Dialogue
Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

Pagkatapos ng Pambansang Awit: "Ating pakinggan ang pambungad na pananalita ng ating panauhing pandangal."

Tapos ako: "Isang masigabong palakpakan para sa ating butihing punong-lungsod!"
Then me: "A thunderous round of applause for our good city mayor!"
-
C
Baka po antukin ang mga estudyante. Puwede po bang "Are you ready, San Pablo?"
The students might nod off. Could we do "Are you ready, San Pablo?"
-
D
Pareho kayong may punto, pero si Mayor ang unang magsasalita.
You both have a point, but the mayor speaks first.
-
A
Kita mo na? Hindi bagay ang "Are you ready" sa harap ni Mayor.
See? "Are you ready" doesn't belong in front of the mayor.
-
C
Opo. E sa battle of the bands po sa gabi?
Yes. What about the battle of the bands at night?
-
D
Kina Fe at Hilda ang umaga, kay Justine ang gabi, at bawal doon ang "masigabong palakpakan."
Fe and Hilda get the morning, Justine gets the evening, and no "thunderous applause" at night.
