Day 50: Moved, Not Removed
At the old public market of Santa Cruz, Laguna, Stella (A), a young reporter for a news website, asks Gloria (B), the municipal information officer, about an order to clear the market's old building, as Ulding (C) and Salud (D), a vendor couple who have sold there for forty years, listen in.
How to study this lesson 3 steps
- Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
- Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
- Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.
Dialogue
Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

A
Ma'am Gloria, what does the order say about the old building?
-
B
Pursuant to Ordinance No. 12, the stalls shall be relocated in connection with the renovation of the public market.
-
C
Apatnapung taon na kami rito ni Salud. Paaalisin mo na ba kami?
Salud and I have been here forty years. Are you kicking us out?
-
A
Could you say it more simply, for the vendors?
-
B
No one is kicking you out. You'll only be moved for six months, while the building is being fixed.
-
D
Six months? Will our regulars still be able to find us?
-
C
We'll be back, and so will our regulars. However long the procession, it still ends at the church.

Thank you, Mang Ulding, I've got my headline: "Moved, not removed: it still ends at the church."
