Day 55: The Gym Contract Renews Itself
At home in Mandaluyong, Jade (A) reads the gym contract her younger brother Gabriel (B) signed in January and stopped using by March.
How to study this lesson 3 steps
- Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
- Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
- Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.
Dialogue
Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

A
Gab, binasa mo ba 'tong kontrata ng gym bago mo pinirmahan?
Gab, did you read this gym contract before you signed it?
-
B
Hindi na, Ate. New Year's resolution ko 'yon, buo ang loob ko.
I didn't bother, Ate. It was my New Year's resolution, and I was all fired up.
-
A
Buo hanggang Marso. Kusa raw itong nagre-renew taon-taon, maliban kung magkansela ka nang nakasulat, tatlumpung araw bago ang renewal.
Fired up until March. It says it renews itself every year unless you cancel in writing thirty days before the renewal.
-
B
Ano? E 'di magbabayad na naman ako ng isang taon na hindi ko gagamitin?
What? So I'll be paying for another year I won't even use?
-
A
Sabi nga nila, nasa huli ang pagsisisi, bunso. Anong petsa ka ba pumirma?
As they say, regret always comes too late, bunso. What date did you sign?
-
B
A-singko ng Enero. E a-uno pa lang ng Disyembre ngayon, 'di ba?
January fifth. And it's only December first today, right?
-
A
May limang araw ka pa. Isulat mo na ngayon, at ipa-receive mo bukas sa gym.
Then you still have five days. Write the letter now, and have the gym stamp it received tomorrow.
