Day 54 of 160

Day 54: Who Planted, Who Harvests

At the barangay's vegetable garden on a vacant lot in Navotas, Rod (A) and his wife Jea (B), volunteers who water it every morning, find that someone has harvested the pechay before it was ready.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Jea, look at the row of pechay, it's all gone! Even the little ones.

  2. B

Those needed two more weeks. Let it go; if it's not meant to be, it won't be.

  3. A

It was meant for us: we planted it, we watered it. Someone else just did the harvesting.

  4. B

But who knows, maybe whoever took it was just really hungry, with kids to feed.

  5. A

E bakit hindi na lang siya humingi? Bibigyan naman natin siya.

Then why didn't they just ask? We'd have given them some.

  6. B

Baka nahiya.

Maybe they were embarrassed. What if we set aside one row for anyone?

  7. A

I like that, as long as they help with the watering first. Let's put up a sign too.

  8. B

Magdilig muna!"

Okay, that's what we'll propose on Sunday, along with the sign: "Want to harvest? Water first!"
