Day 57: Seventy Percent Chance of Rain
At a garden venue in Silang, Cavite, Kim (A), a young weather forecaster, is called in by her aunt Gemma (B), an events planner with an outdoor wedding for three hundred guests on Saturday.
How to study this lesson 3 steps
- Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
- Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
- Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Ano po 'yung emergency, Tita?
What's the emergency, Tita?
-
B
Will it rain on Saturday? The garden wedding has three hundred guests; just yes or no.
-
A
It may rain by the afternoon; a low pressure area seems to be heading this way.
-
B
Kim, I'm not asking the forecaster, I'm asking my niece.
-
A
We both give the same answer: seventy percent, and the heavy rain will probably hold off until evening.

B
The ceremony's at three, and I have to decide by noon whether to rent a tent.
-
A
As your niece: rent it. A tent costs less than three hundred soaking-wet guests.
-
B
All right, I'll rent one. But if the sun comes out, I'm complaining to the forecaster, not my niece.
