At the family's slipper workshop in Liliw, Laguna, Gusting (A), the older founder, meets with his daughter Analyn (B), who now runs the business, about a big order from an online retailer.
How to study this lesson 3 steps
- Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
- Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
- Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.
Dialogue
Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

A
Limang libong pares kada buwan? Hindi kaya 'yan ng mga tauhan natin.
Five thousand pairs a month? Our people can't do that.
-
B
That's exactly why, Dad, we'll buy a machine for the soles.
-
A
Our capital isn't machines, it's the hands of our workers.
-
B
Look at this. Store sales are down by half, but online orders have tripled.
-
A
Goods made in a rush are goods without a soul.
-
B
The embroidery stays handmade. The machine is only for the soles, and no one gets laid off.
-
A
No one gets laid off, right? All right, let's try it, but I'll check every pair myself.
