Day 6 of 160

Day 6: Not What the Internet Said

At a clinic in Pasig, Marvin (A), a young office worker, shows Dr. Mayumi (B) the lump on his neck and what he read about it online.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Doc, this is the lump on my neck. The internet says it might be lymphoma.

  2. B

Patingin po. May masakit po ba kayong ngipin?

Let me see. Do you have a tooth that hurts?

  3. A

Yes, my molar's been throbbing for two weeks. What does that have to do with it?

  4. B

This is a kulani, a lymph node. It's only swollen because of the infection in your tooth.

  5. A

Kulani? Hindi ko na po kailangang magpa-biopsy?

    A kulani? So I don't need a biopsy?

  6. B

Not for now. See a dentist first, and come back if it hasn't gone down in two weeks.

  7. A

Thank you, Doc. I couldn't sleep for two nights because of what I read.
