Day 85: A Cell Tower Next Door
On her porch in Antipolo, Aling Charing (A), a retired nurse collecting signatures against a cell tower going up next door, stops Benjo (B), a young telecom engineer who lives down the street.
How to study this lesson 3 steps
- Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
- Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
- Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.
Dialogue
Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

Benjo, pirmahan mo nga 'tong petisyon laban sa cell tower sa tabi namin.
Benjo, sign this petition against the cell tower next door to us, will you?
-
B
What are you worried about? I work for a telco, maybe I can answer.
-
A
The radiation, of course! I was a nurse for thirty years, I know what it does.
-
B
That's different from X-rays. It's probably even weaker than you think.
-
A
Marahil?
"Probably"? There you engineers go again, never a straight answer.
-
B
In science, very little is certain. But according to the studies, it seems to be safe.
-
A
Fine, let's say it's safe. The truth is, I'm more worried about their diesel generator, right outside my bedroom.
-
B
That could well be noisy during brownouts. We can ask them to move it to the other side.

Then that's what we'll put in the petition. You write it, you're the engineer.
