Day 84 of 160

Day 84: Gout After the Fiesta

In a clinic in Nagcarlan, Laguna, the week after the town fiesta, Paula (A) brings her grandfather, Mang Ponciano (C), to their family doctor, Dr. Karen (B), about his swollen big toe.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Doc, what did Lolo's results show?

  2. B

It's gout, Mang Ponciano. Uric acid has built up in the joint of your big toe.

  3. C

Gout? E wala naman akong ginagawang mabigat, Dok.

Gout? But I haven't been doing anything strenuous, Doc.

  4. B

It's not from work, it's from what you ate. How many days were you eating fiesta food?

  5. A

Tatlong araw po, Dok. Lagi pa po siyang nasa tabi ng litson at dinuguan.

Three days, Doc. And he was always right next to the lechon and the dinuguan.

  6. C

Regret really does come last. But at my cousin's fiesta next month, just one plate, Doc?

  7. B

A saucer, not a plate, and no dinuguan. As long as you take your medicine and drink plenty of water.

  8. C

Platito?

A saucer? Fine, but I get to pick the saucer.
