Day 9 of 160

Day 9: When the Blanket Is Short

At the barangay hall in Valenzuela, Elvin (A), the Sangguniang Kabataan chairman, and his friend Daniel (B), an SK councilor, plan the youth budget for the year.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Bro, here's the plan: fresh paint on the court, a study hub with Wi-Fi, and a summer league.

  2. B

Lahat 'yan ngayong taon? Nakita mo na ba ang pondo natin?

All that this year? Have you seen our budget?

  3. A

Yeah, but the young people have been waiting a long time.

  4. B

While the blanket's short, let's learn to curl up. The money isn't even enough for the court alone.

  5. A

Kapag may tiyaga, may nilaga, 'di ba? Hahanap ako ng sponsor.

    Where there's a will, there's a way, right? I'll find a sponsor.

  6. B

Okay: the budget goes to the study hub, the sponsor covers the league, and the paint waits till next year.

  7. A

Deal, but you're the one telling the players they have to wait.
