Day 123 of 215

Day 123: Seventy and Still Lifting

Faith (A) has hired a small truck to move her things to a condo in Pasig, and the driver, Mang Teban (B), picks up the heaviest box himself.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Mang Teban, tulungan ko na po kayo! Mabigat po 'yan.

Mang Teban, let me help you! It's heavy.

  2. B

Naku, kaya ko 'to, iha. Sanay na akong magbuhat.

Oh, I can handle this, dear. I'm used to lifting.

  3. A

Nakakahiya po, kayo pa ang nagbubuhat. Ilang taon na po ba kayo?

I feel bad that you're the one doing the lifting. How old are you, anyway?

  4. B

Sitenta na ako. Pero malakas pa ako sa kalabaw!

I'm seventy. But I'm still stronger than a carabao!

  5. A

Sitenta na po kayo? Lalo po tuloy akong nahiya.

You're seventy? Now I feel even worse.

  6. B

Huwag kang mahiya. Nakakatuwa nga, ito lang ang ehersisyo ko!

Don't feel bad. I actually enjoy it, it's the only exercise I get!
