Day 125 of 215

Day 125: Twelve Godparents Are Too Many

At the family dinner table, Gregorio (A) is drawing up the list of godparents for his first grandchild's christening with his daughter Ica (B), the baby's mother.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Isama na rin natin si Pareng Dante sa mga ninong. Labindalawa na sila!

Let's add Pareng Dante to the godfathers too. That makes twelve!

  2. B

Pa, labindalawa na po? Ang dami naman po niyan!

Dad, twelve? That's way too many!

  3. A

Mas maraming ninong, lalong dadami ang regalo ng apo ko!

More godfathers, even more gifts for my grandchild!

  4. B

Opo, pero lalo ring hahaba ang listahan ng pasasalamatan natin.

Sure, but our list of people to thank will get even longer.

  5. A

E 'di magpasalamat tayo. Madali lang 'yon!

So we thank them. That's easy!

  6. B

Sige po, pero kayo ang magsusulat ng labindalawang thank-you card, ha.

Okay, but you're writing all twelve thank-you cards.
