Day 152 of 215

Day 152: Not Crying, Just Practicing

Gerald (A) knocks on his neighbors' door in Santa Ana, where Emma (B) lives with her grown daughter, Grace (C), after a week of hearing what sounds like crying through the wall every evening.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Pasensiya na po sa istorbo. Okay lang po ba kayo rito?

Sorry to bother you. Is everything all right in here?

  2. B

Oo naman, iho. Bakit mo naitanong?

Of course, iho. Why do you ask?

  3. A

Gabi-gabi po kasi, may naririnig akong parang umiiyak. Isang linggo na po.

It's just that every night, I hear what sounds like someone crying. It's been a week.

  4. C

Ay, sorry! Ako 'yon, nagpa-practice ako ng violin.

Oh, sorry! That's me, practicing the violin.

  5. A

Violin pala 'yon? Akala ko talaga may umiiyak!

That was a violin? I really thought someone was crying!

  6. B

Isang buwan pa lang kasi siyang nag-aaral, iho. Pagtiisan mo muna kami, ha?

She's only been learning for a month, iho. Bear with us for now, okay?
