Day 171 of 215

Day 171: The Roosters Belong to Ninong

Celine (A), a college student with exams this week, tells her father (B) that she wants to complain to the barangay about the roosters on the vacant lot next door in Santa Rosa, Laguna, which crow from three in the morning.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Pa, irereklamo ko na po sa barangay ang mga manok sa kabila.

Dad, I'm going to report the roosters next door to the barangay.

  2. B

Tama ka, maingay nga. Pero alam mo ba kung kanino 'yon?

You're right, they are loud. But do you know whose they are?

  3. A

Hindi po. Basta alas-tres pa lang, tumitilaok na!

No. All I know is they're already crowing at three!

  4. B

Sa ninong mo. Hindi naman natin puwedeng ireklamo si Pareng Jeff.

Your godfather's. We can't exactly report Pareng Jeff.

  5. A

Kay Ninong Jeff po pala? Pero may exam po ako buong linggo.

They're Ninong Jeff's? But I have exams all week.

  6. B

Siguro kakausapin ko na lang siya. Baka puwede niyang ilayo muna.

Maybe I'll just talk to him. He might be able to move them away for now.
