Day 173 of 215

Day 173: Diamonds Before Rent

Wilson (A) still hasn't paid his share of the rent for the apartment he shares with Matthew (B) in Kamuning, and Matthew comes home to find him hunched over his phone.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Uy, nandito ka na pala! Wala 'to, chine-check ko lang 'yung game.

Oh, you're home! It's nothing, I'm just checking the game.

  2. B

Nasa top-up page ka, o. Hindi ka pa nga nakakabayad ng upa.

You're on the top-up page. You haven't even paid the rent yet.

  3. A

Sale kasi ngayon, pare. Doble ang diamonds hanggang mamayang hatinggabi.

It's on sale today, man. Double diamonds until midnight.

  4. B

Lalo kang malulubog sa utang kapag nag-top-up ka pa.

You'll sink even deeper into debt if you top up again.

  5. A

Pero kapag nanalo ako sa tournament, babayaran kita nang doble!

But if I win the tournament, I'll pay you back double!

  6. B

Akin na nga 'yang cellphone mo. Ibabalik ko pagkabayad mo ng upa.

Hand over that phone. You'll get it back once you've paid the rent.
