Day 184 of 215

Day 184: The Hamster's Night Shift

At three in the morning, Ivan (A) finds his roommate Neil (B) still awake, a few days after Ivan brought home a hamster from Cartimar, the pet market in Pasay.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Gising ka pa, pare? Alas-tres na, a.

You're still up, man? It's already three.

  2. B

'Yang hamster mo! Pagpatay ng ilaw, takbo agad siya sa maingay niyang gulong.

It's that hamster of yours! As soon as the light goes off, he's off running on his squeaky wheel.

  3. A

Sorry, pare, panggabi raw sila. Sa sala na lang kaya?

Sorry, man, they work the night shift, apparently. What about the living room?

  4. B

Kahit sa sala, rinig pa rin 'yan. Sa kusina na lang, mas malayo.

Even in the living room, we'd still hear him. The kitchen's better, it's farther.

  5. A

Sige, sa kusina muna. Bukas, bibili ako ng silent wheel sa Cartimar.

Okay, the kitchen for now. Tomorrow I'll buy a silent wheel at Cartimar.
