Day 185 of 215

Day 185: Lolo's Letters in the Trunk

The owner has sold the lot, so Lola Felisa (A), her daughter Pinky (B) and her grandson Kurt (C) are packing up the rented house in Pandacan, Manila, where the family has lived since 1985.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Ingat sa baul, apo. Mula noong lumipat tayo rito, sarado na 'yan.

Careful with that trunk, dear. It's been shut ever since we moved here.

  2. B

Itapon na po natin, Ma. Lumang kumot lang siguro 'yan.

Let's just throw it out, Mom. It's probably just old blankets.

  3. C

Huwag po muna, may mga sulat dito! "Para kay Felisa" po ang nakasulat.

Not yet, there are letters in here! They say "For Felisa."

  4. A

Diyos ko, ang mga sulat ng lolo mo! Akala ko matagal na 'yang nawala.

My goodness, your Lolo's letters! I thought those were lost long ago.

  5. C

"Mahal kong Felisa..." Ang sweet po pala ni Lolo!

"My dearest Felisa..." Who knew Lolo was so sweet!

  6. A

Akin na 'yan! Mamaya ko na babasahin, mag-isa.

Give me those! I'll read them later, by myself.
