Day 187: What Was Inside the Microwave

Dolly (C) and her daughter Carla (B) have brought their dead microwave to Ferdie (A), who repairs appliances in a small shop in Marikina, and he has just opened it up.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Nabuksan ko na po. Tingnan po ninyo 'tong board.

I've got it open. Take a look at this board.

  2. B

Ano po 'yang mga itim? Parang patay na ipis po!

What are those black things? They look like dead cockroaches!

  3. C

Ipis? Imposible po, malinis ang kusina namin!

Cockroaches? Impossible, our kitchen is clean!

  4. A

Dahil sa ipis, nasunog po ang board. Gustong-gusto po nila ang init.

The board burned out because of the cockroaches. They love the warmth.

  5. B

Kaya po pala ayaw nang uminit! Ma, sabi ko na po, huwag ninyong patungan ng pandesal.

So that's why it wouldn't heat up anymore! Mom, I told you not to keep pandesal on top of it.
