Day 188: Use My HMO Card, Ma
At the cashier of a clinic in Taguig, Thelma (B) is about to pay cash for her check-up when her daughter Bernadette (A), who has just started a new job, stops her.
How to study this lesson 3 steps
- Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
- Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
- Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.
Dialogue
Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

A
Mom, wait. Why don't we use my HMO card?
-
B
HMO?
HMO? I'll just pay cash, I'm not sure about those cards.
-
A
You're my dependent, Mom, so your check-up is free.
-
B
E paano kung ayaw tanggapin? Nakakahiya sa mga nakapila.
And what if they won't accept it? It'd be so embarrassing in front of everyone in line.
-
A
What if I ask at the front desk first? It'll just take a minute.
-
B
Oh, all right. But if they say no, we're paying cash, okay?
