Day 193 of 215

Day 193: The Loudest Teleserye on the Street

Every night, the teleserye on the TV of Aling Upeng (B), an older woman, is so loud that her next-door neighbor (A) can follow the story from her own bedroom in Paco, Manila, and today she finally brings it up.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Aling Upeng, ang ganda po ng teleserye kagabi, 'no?

Aling Upeng, last night's episode of the teleserye was great, wasn't it?

  2. B

Napanood mo rin? Fan ka rin pala!

You watched it too? So you're a fan too!

  3. A

Hindi po, narinig ko lang mula sa kuwarto ko. Gabi-gabi po.

No, I just heard it from my bedroom. Every night.

  4. B

Ay, pasensiya ka na! Mahina na kasi ang pandinig ko.

Oh, I'm so sorry! My hearing's not what it used to be.

  5. A

Kaya po pala ang lakas. Bakit hindi po natin i-on ang subtitles?

So that's why it's so loud. Why don't we turn on the subtitles?

  6. B

Sige, ikaw na ang mag-ayos. Tapos dito ka na manood, may kasama pa ako.

All right, you set it up. Then you can watch here, and I'll have company.
