Day 195 of 215

Day 195: Lolo on the Panel

In their living room in Valenzuela, Nina (A), a college senior, rehearses her thesis defense for the fifth time that evening in front of her grandfather, Lolo Pilo (B), a retired high school teacher.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Lolo, gising pa po ba kayo? Kanina pa po kayo hikab nang hikab.

Lolo, are you still awake? You've been yawning nonstop.

  2. B

E paulit-ulit mo nang sinasabi 'yan, apo. Kabisado ko na rin.

Well, you've said it over and over, dear. I know it by heart too.

  3. A

Sorry po, Lolo. Kayo na lang po kaya ang panel?

Sorry, Lolo. Why don't you be the panel instead?

  4. B

Sige. Miss Nina, bakit tatlumpu lang ang respondents mo?

All right. Miss Nina, why do you only have thirty respondents?

  5. A

Lolo naman! Sa dinami-dami po ng tanong, bakit 'yan pa?

Come on, Lolo! Of all the questions, why that one?

  6. B

'Yan ang paborito kong tanong noong nagtuturo pa ako. Sagutin mo na!

That was my favorite question back when I was still teaching. Now answer it!
