Day 212 of 215

Day 212: Welcome Pancit From Next Door

On the day a young office worker (B) moves into the apartment next to hers in Kamias, Quezon City, Lola Ciring (A) comes over with a plate of pancit and a few questions.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Iho, pancit para sa bagong kapitbahay. Estudyante ka ba?

Iho, some pancit for the new neighbor. Are you a student?

  2. B

Salamat po, Lola! Hindi na po, nagtatrabaho na ako sa Ortigas.

Thank you, Lola! Not anymore, I work in Ortigas now.

  3. A

May nobya ka na? Kumakanta ka ba sa gabi?

Do you have a girlfriend yet? Do you sing at night?

  4. B

Wala pa po. Hindi naman po ako maingay, siguro 'yung alarm ko lang tuwing alas-singko.

Not yet. And I'm not really noisy. Maybe just my alarm at five every morning.

  5. A

Alas-singko? Alas-kuwatro pa lang, gising na ako, kaya pasado ka!

Five? I'm already up at four, so you pass!
