Day 67 of 215

Day 67: Don't Lend Your Pension, Ma

At home, Mylene (A) asks her mother, Pilar (B), about the money Pilar plans to lend Charing, a distant cousin.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Ma, ipapahiram daw po ninyo 'yung kalahati ng pensiyon ninyo?

Mom, I heard you're lending out half your pension?

  2. B

Oo, kay Charing. Ipapaopera raw niya ang asawa niya.

Yes, to Charing. She says her husband's having an operation.

  3. A

Bayad na po ba 'yung utang niya noong Pasko?

Has she paid back what she borrowed at Christmas?

  4. B

Hindi pa nga. Pero nakakahiya namang tumanggi.

Well, not yet. But it'd be awkward to say no.

  5. A

Dapat po may kasulatan man lang. Pero mas mabuti po kung huwag na lang.

There should at least be something in writing. But it'd be better if you just didn't.

  6. B

Sige, ikaw na ang gumawa. Ikaw rin ang magpapirma, ha?

Fine, you write it up, then. And you get it signed too, okay?
