Day 10: Saving the Spot With a Chair

On a narrow street in Malabon, Fidel (A), who has just moved in, asks his older neighbor Vicente (B) about the plastic chair he puts out every evening to save the parking spot in front of his house.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Mang Vicente, para saan po 'yung monoblock sa tapat ninyo?

Mang Vicente, what's the plastic chair in front of your place for?

  2. B

Bagong salta ka pa lang, iho. Tatlumpung taon na akong pumaparada riyan.

You're new around here, iho. I've been parking there for thirty years.

  3. A

Pasensiya na po, pero wala po akong nakikitang kotse ninyo.

Sorry, but I don't see a car of yours anywhere.

  4. B

Nahuli mo ako, para 'yan sa anak ko. Dinadala niya rito ang mga apo ko tuwing Linggo.

You caught me, it's for my son. He brings my grandkids over every Sunday.

  5. A

E 'di sa garahe ko na lang po siya pumarada tuwing Linggo.

Then he can just park in my garage on Sundays.

  6. B

Talaga? Aba, liligpitin ko na 'yung monoblock.

Really? Well, then I'll put that chair away.
