Day 9 of 185

Day 9: Another Corn Dog Stall?

On a row of food stalls near the universities on Katipunan, Rachelle (A), a first-time business owner, asks Maricel (B), who has run the carinderia next door for twenty years, what she thinks of her new corn dog stall.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Ate Maricel, ano po sa tingin ninyo sa bago kong corn dog stall?

Ate Maricel, what do you think of my new corn dog stall?

  2. B

Maganda, makulay. Pero alam mo, parang kabute ang mga ganyan dito.

It's nice, colorful. But you know, those kinds of stalls are like mushrooms around here.

  3. A

Kabute po? Ano po ang ibig ninyong sabihin?

    Mushrooms? What do you mean?

  4. B

Sulpot nang sulpot, pero sara rin agad. Ningas-kugon kasi ang mga uso.

They keep popping up, but they close just as fast. Trends here burn out quickly.

  5. A

Naku, paano po ako tatagal dito?

Oh no, so how am I supposed to last here?

  6. B

Mag-combo tayo: corn dog mo, sago't gulaman ko. Hatian tayo sa kita.

Let's do a combo: your corn dogs, my sago't gulaman. We'll split the profits.
