Day 8 of 185

Day 8: Hermano Mayor Next Year?

During the town fiesta in Cabanatuan, Nueva Ecija, Dorotea (A) tells her son Rolly (B), home from Manila, that the fiesta committee wants him as next year's hermano mayor, the main sponsor.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

  1. A

Anak, ikaw raw ang gusto ng komite na maging hermano mayor sa isang taon.

Son, I hear the committee wants you to be hermano mayor next year.

  2. B

Ako po? Malaking karangalan po 'yan, Nay.

Me? That's a great honor, Mom.

  3. A

Aba, oo naman! Ikaw ang sasagot sa banda at handaan.

Why, of course! You'd be paying for the band and the feast.

  4. B

Siguro po sa ibang taon na lang. Baka po hindi kayanin ng ipon ko.

Maybe some other year. My savings might not stretch that far.

  5. A

Naiintindihan ko. Isama mo ang mga pinsan mo, hati kayo sa karangalan at gastos.

I understand. Bring in your cousins, and you can all share the honor and the cost.

  6. B

Puwede po ba 'yon? Sige po, kakausapin ko sila.

Can we do that? Okay, I'll talk to them.
