Day 11 of 185

Day 11: Stranded at Batangas Port

At the crowded passenger terminal of Batangas Port, Marissa (A) and her husband Orlando (B) learn that the Coast Guard has suspended all trips to Mindoro as a typhoon approaches, the day before her mother's eightieth birthday.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Wala raw biyahe papuntang Mindoro. Bukas pa naman ang birthday ni Nanay.

No trips to Mindoro, they say. And Mom's birthday is tomorrow, of all days.

  2. B

May mga bangkero raw na tumatawid pa rin. Hanap tayo.

I hear some boatmen are still crossing. Let's find one.

  3. A

Huwag ka ngang matigas ang ulo. Ayokong maging basang-sisiw tayo sa laot.

Don't be so stubborn. I don't want us ending up like drowned rats out at sea.

  4. B

E si Nanay? Hinihintay niya tayo.

What about your mom? She's waiting for us.

  5. A

Mas gusto niyang ligtas tayo. Tatawagan ko sina Ate, video call na lang ang party.

She'd rather we be safe. I'll call Ate and the others, we'll do the party by video call.

  6. B

Panalo ka na naman. Basta ako ang kakanta ng Happy Birthday.

You win again. But I'm the one singing Happy Birthday.
