Day 12 of 185

Day 12: Noche Buena Somewhere Else?

Over afternoon coffee in their old house in Malolos, Bulacan, Felisa (A) tells her husband Rogelio (B) that their children want this year's Noche Buena at their eldest son's house.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Kina Ramon na raw ang Noche Buena ngayong taon, sabi ng mga anak natin.

The kids say Noche Buena should be at Ramon's this year.

  2. B

Sa bahay na ng panganay natin ang Noche Buena? Pagputi ng uwak!

Noche Buena at our eldest's house? When pigs fly!

  3. A

Para raw makapagpahinga naman tayo. Matanda na tayo, Rogelio.

So we can finally rest, they say. We're old now, Rogelio.

  4. B

Limampung taon na tayong naghahanda rito. Hindi ko 'yan basta bibitawan.

We've hosted it here for fifty years. I'm not just giving that up.

  5. A

Ang totoo, matagal na akong pagod. Sang-ayon ako sa mga bata.

The truth is, I've been tired for a long time. I agree with the kids.

  6. B

Ngayon mo lang sinabi? Sige na nga, pumuti na ang uwak.

And you're only telling me now? Fine, I guess pigs can fly.
