Day 13: Renovated, Not Demolished
At the old public market in Pateros, Norman (A), a regular customer who works at the town hall, finds Belen (B), who has sold vegetables there for forty years, upset by a rumor about the market.
How to study this lesson 3 steps
- Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
- Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
- Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.
Dialogue
Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

A
Aling Belen, ano po ang problema? Parang wala po kayo sa sarili.
Aling Belen, what's wrong? You don't seem like yourself.
-
B
Gigibain na raw itong palengke. Saan na ako magtitinda pagkatapos ng apatnapung taon?
They say this market's going to be torn down. Where will I sell after forty years?
-
A
Hindi po gigibain ang palengke kundi aayusin lang. Ang munisipyo mismo po ang nag-post nito.
The market isn't being torn down, just renovated. The town hall itself posted this.
-
B
Talaga? E saan kami pupuwesto habang inaayos?
Really? Then where do we set up while it's being fixed?
-
A
May pansamantalang puwesto raw po sa may plaza.
It says there'll be temporary stalls by the plaza.
-
B
Sana nga. Pero babalik pa kaya sa amin ang mga puwesto namin?
I hope so. But will we ever get our stalls back?
