Day 118: No Box for the Rice Fields

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Maupo ka muna, iho. Ano ba 'yang hawak mo?

Have a seat, iho. What's that you've got there?

  2. B

A survey for the town's land use plan. What's the biggest change around here?

  3. A

Since the subdivisions multiplied, we get traffic even out here. I can't ride my bike to town anymore.

  4. B

Does it flood here too when it rains hard?

  5. A

Back when it was all rice fields around here, the rain went into the fields. Now it goes into my living room.

  6. B

For the land that's left, it turns out there are only three choices on this form: residential, commercial and industrial.

  7. A

Isulat mo na lang sa gilid: palayan. Kahit isa lang.

Then just write it in the margin: rice field. Even just one.
