Day 140: Reports Before Lesson Plans
In the faculty room of a public elementary school in Caloocan at seven in the evening, Maribel (A), a veteran teacher, finds Jessica (B), in her second year of teaching, still typing the fifth report due this week.
How to study this lesson 3 steps
- Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
- Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
- Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.
Dialogue
Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

Alas-siyete na, Jessica. Ano 'yang tinatapos mo pa?
It's seven o'clock, Jessica. What are you still working on?
-
B
'Yung panlimang report po ngayong linggo, Ma'am. Hindi na po ako nakakapaghanda ng mga lesson plan ko.
The fifth report this week, Ma'am. I can't even prepare my lesson plans anymore.
-
A
Dinaanan ko rin 'yan. Akala ko, kailangang perpekto lahat ng report.
I've been there too. I thought every report had to be perfect.
-
B
Nagkakamali na nga po ako sa mga bilang sa sobrang pagod.
I'm so tired I'm already making mistakes with the numbers.
-
A
Patingin nga. Dalawa lang dito ang talagang binabasa ng division office.
Let me see that. Only two of these actually get read at the division office.
-
B
Paano po ang iba? Baka po mapagalitan ako ni Sir.
What about the rest? Sir might scold me.

A
Ipasa mo sa oras, pero huwag mong pagpuyatan. Ang mga bata ang dapat mong paghandaan.
Turn them in on time, but don't lose sleep over them. It's the kids you should be preparing for.
