Day 158 of 185

Day 158: Three Jobs in Two Years

At dinner in their apartment in Mandaluyong, Nenita (A), an HR manager, notices that her son Lucas (B), a video editor, is in a very good mood.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Bakit ang saya mo, Lucas? Kanina ka pa nakangiti.

Why are you so happy, Lucas? You've been smiling all evening.

  2. B

I'm changing jobs. The offer pays thirty percent more.

  3. A

Again? Three jobs in two years, and HR will think you can't stay put.

  4. B

If I don't move, I'll be on this same salary until I'm thirty.

  5. A

How will you learn anything if you keep leaving before a year is up?

  6. B

Kayo po ang nagha-hire, Ma. Ano po ba talaga ang hinahanap ninyo?

You're the one who hires people, Mom. What do you really look for?

  7. A

Honestly? Not how many jobs you've had, but what you contributed at each one.
