Day 163 of 185

Day 163: A Factory Job in Poland?

At home in Batangas, Virgie (A) asks her husband Arnel (B), who worked twelve years in Saudi Arabia, to lend her younger brother money for an agency that promises him a factory job in Poland.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

  1. A

Let's lend Rommel a hundred and fifty thousand for his agency.

  2. B

I looked that agency up. It's not on the DMW's list.

  3. A

Maybe it's just new. They say the factory job in Poland is guaranteed.

  4. B

Kahit bago, dapat lisensiyado. Bukod diyan, sobra-sobra ang hinihingi nilang placement fee.

Even a new one has to be licensed. Besides, the placement fee they're asking for is way too much.

  5. A

Pero kapatid ko siya, Arnel. Ngayon lang siya nagkaroon ng ganitong pagkakataon.

But he's my brother, Arnel. It's the first chance like this he's ever had.

  6. B

That's exactly why we check first. In my twelve years in Saudi, I saw so many people get scammed like that.

  7. A

All right. I'll call the DMW tomorrow, before we hand over a single peso.
