Day 164 of 185

Day 164: Grandma's Rules for the Baby

A month after giving birth, Kaye (A) watches her mother Edna (B), who has moved in to help with the baby, tie a cloth around the baby's belly.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Mom, what's that you're tying around Baby's tummy?

  2. B

Bigkis 'yan, para hindi kabagin. Saka huwag mo siyang paliliguan sa hapon, ha?

It's a binder, so he won't get gassy. And don't bathe him in the afternoon, okay?

  3. A

Why not? The pediatrician said he can have his bath any time of day.

  4. B

Nagkakasipon ang baby kapag pinaliguan sa hapon. Tatlo kayong pinalaki ko, a.

Babies catch colds when they're bathed in the afternoon. I raised three of you, you know.

  5. A

Mom, I never get to rest with all these superstitions we follow.

  6. B

So that's what you call them, superstitions. I'll take off the binder, but he still gets his bath in the morning.

  7. A

I'm sorry, Mom. I couldn't do this without you.
