Day 64: Lolo's Jeep Fails the Smoke Test
At home in Caloocan, Lolo Floro (A) waits for his grandson Joseph (B) to come back from the emission testing center with Lolo's old owner-type jeep.
How to study this lesson 3 steps
- Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
- Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
- Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.
Dialogue
Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

A
O, Joseph, bakit ka nakasimangot? Huwag mong sabihing bumagsak ang owner ko.
Well, Joseph, why the long face? Don't tell me my jeep failed.
-
B
Bumagsak nga po, Lo. Sinabi po ng inspector na sobrang itim ng usok.
It did, Lolo. The inspector said the smoke was way too black.
-
A
Ano pa ang sinabi niya? Walang labis, walang kulang, ha.
What else did he say? Word for word, now.
-
B
Itinanong po niya kung kailan huling inayos ang makina.
He asked when the engine was last worked on.
-
A
Ako mismo ang nag-ayos noong Pasko. May iba pa siyang sinabi, ano?
I worked on it myself at Christmas. He said something else, didn't he?
-
B
Ibenta na lang daw po ninyo, Lo, habang may bibili pa.
He said you should just sell it, Lolo, while someone's still willing to buy it.
-
A
Ibenta? Mas mauuna pang magretiro ang inspector na 'yon kaysa sa owner ko.
Sell it? That inspector will retire before my jeep does.
