Day 75: Paint for a Bike Lane
At a homeowners' association meeting in a Las Piñas subdivision, the president, Emma (A), gives the floor to James (B), a young resident who cycles to work, to present his proposal for a painted bike lane on the main road.
How to study this lesson 3 steps
- Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
- Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
- Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.
Dialogue
Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

A
James, ikaw na. Ano ang proposal mo?
James, you're up. What's your proposal?
-
B
Almost seventy of us bike to work. Because of that, we need a bike lane on the main road.
-
A
Pitumpu? Ganoon kayo karami?
Seventy? There are that many of you?
-
B
Opo.
Yes. On top of that, there'd be less traffic at the gate every morning.

A
But twenty families don't have a garage. That's why they park on the main road every night.
-
B
The lane would only take one side. They can still park on the other side.

Patas 'yan.
That's fair. We'll put it to a vote, but you're buying the paint.
