Day 89: A Bedspace Near Makati
On a Sunday night at their house in San Jose del Monte, Bulacan, Emil (A) tells his wife Glenda (B) his idea of renting a bedspace near his office in Makati on weekdays.
How to study this lesson 3 steps
- Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
- Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
- Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.
Dialogue
Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

A
Mag-bedspace na lang kaya ako sa Makati? Uuwi ako tuwing weekend.
What if I got a bedspace in Makati? I'd come home on weekends.
-
B
Dagdag na upa? Halos hindi ka na nga nakikita ng mga bata.
More rent? The kids already barely see you.
-
A
Apat na oras akong nasa biyahe araw-araw. Dahil dito, tulog na kayo pag-uwi ko.
I spend four hours on the road every day. Because of that, you're all asleep by the time I get home.
-
B
Kapag nag-bedspace ka naman, Sabado't Linggo ka na lang nila makikita.
And if you get a bedspace, they'll only see you on Saturdays and Sundays.
-
A
Pero makikita nila akong gising. Bukod pa rito, mas mahal ang pamasahe ko kaysa sa upa.
But they'll see me awake. On top of that, my fares cost more than the rent would.

B
Para kang abogado. Isang buwan muna, at tuwing Miyerkoles, uuwi ka.
You sound like a lawyer. One month to start, and every Wednesday, you come home.
-
A
Payag. Ako pa ang magluluto tuwing Miyerkoles.
Deal. I'll even do the cooking on Wednesdays.
