Day 103 of 160

Day 103: Renting Out the Ancestral House

In the sala of her family's century-old wooden house in Silang, Cavite, Alma (A) hears out Hazel (B), a young film director, and Rafael (C), her producer, who want to rent the house for a week to shoot a period film.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

This home is the legacy of my ancestors, not something rented out lightly to outsiders.

  2. B

Ramdam po namin iyon pagpasok pa lang. Wala na pong ganito sa Cavite.

We could feel that the moment we walked in. There's nothing else like it left in Cavite.

  3. C

It's just one week, and we're offering a hundred thousand.

  4. A

Money is not the issue. The narra floors must not be scratched, and not one nail goes into the walls.

  5. B

Opo, lalatagan po namin ang buong sahig. Ano pa po ang kondisyon ninyo?

Of course, we'll cover the whole floor. What other conditions do you have?

  6. A

Only one more: put my great-grandmother's portrait in the film.

  7. C

Hazel, wala pa tayong portrait ng lola ng bida. Siya na lang kaya?

Hazel, we still don't have a portrait for the heroine's grandmother. What about her?

  8. B

Perfect! She'll be the heroine's grandmother, hanging right here in the sala.

  9. A

In that case, I entrust this home to you. At last, Lola Amparo will be seen on the silver screen.
