Day 114 of 160

Day 114: The Taho Vendor Video

In the newsroom of an online news site in Bonifacio Global City, managing editor Dado (A) asks Melvin (B), the young social media editor, about his plan to post a viral video of a customer berating an old taho vendor, as senior reporter Sheila (C) comes back from the field.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Melvin, are you about to post that taho vendor video?

  2. B

Yes, Sir, it's at two million views. Weren't you the one who taught us to show the truth?

  3. A

The truth, sure, but have we talked to Manong? What if he's the one who ends up humiliated?

  4. B

He's the victim. Won't more people help him if we're the ones posting it?

  5. C

I tracked him down this morning on his route in Pasig, and I talked to him myself.

  6. A

O, ano'ng sabi niya? Payag ba siyang makilala?

So, what did he say? Is he okay with being identified?

  7. C

He asked us not to. He's embarrassed in front of his grandchildren, and he just wants to forget it.

  8. B

But, Ma'am, the video's already on everyone's feed. It's not going to disappear.

  9. A

We can't erase it, but we can choose not to add to it. Melvin, delete the draft.
