Day 131 of 160

Day 131: Critique the Escolta Facade

At the end of his job interview at a heritage restoration firm in Manila, Mark (A), a young architect, is handed a photo of an old building on Escolta by Eddie (B), the firm's principal architect.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Salamat po sa oras ninyo, Sir Eddie. May iba pa po ba kayong gustong malaman?

Thank you for your time, Sir Eddie. Is there anything else you'd like to know?

  2. B

One more thing. Here's a photo of a building on Escolta: critique it, right now.

  3. A

The facade is beautiful, Art Deco, and the ornaments up top are still intact.

  4. B

Every applicant gives me nothing but praise. What's wrong with it?

  5. A

On the whole, the restoration is well done; however, the windows on the third floor don't seem to be original.

  6. B

Bakit mo nasabi 'yan? Pareho naman ang kulay sa ibang palapag.

Why do you say that? The color matches the other floors.

  7. A

The frames are aluminum, not wood like on the other floors. The repair looks rushed.

  8. B

You're right, I rushed that job twenty years ago. When can you start?
