Day 158: Strays at the Meat Stall
Outside the public market of Angono, Rizal, Divina (A), who runs a volunteer group that feeds and neuters stray dogs, faces Igme (B), a pork vendor fed up with strays raiding his stall.
How to study this lesson 3 steps
- Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
- Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
- Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.
Dialogue
Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

Igme, is it true you're calling the dog pound? I heard it from the vendors.
-
B
Totoo. Kahapon, isang kilong liempo ang tinangay nila habang nagsusukli ako.
It's true. Yesterday they made off with a kilo of pork belly while I was making change.

A
You know what happens to the dogs nobody claims at the pound. Give us a chance first.
-
B
What chance? You feed them right next to the market, so this is where they hang around.

A
Our neutering drive is on Sunday. The municipal vet says there could be fewer dogs by next year.
-
B
Maybe so, but I can't wait a whole year. Every kilo that goes missing comes out of my pocket.
-
A
What if we feed them behind the basketball court instead, far from your stall?
-
B
Puwede.
Fine. You can have the fat and bones, rather than have the dogs steal them.
-
A
Usapan 'yan.
It's a deal. If a dog makes off with your pork belly again, I'll pay for it.
